I’m really excited to read the Lee Jenkins profile of ‘Bron that everyone’s been bloggin’ and tweetin’ about, and I enjoyed Tim Reynolds’ AP story: Transition Over, Time to Take Over; especially when I read Dwyane Wade’s quotes for the story:
‘“Obviously, last year we kind of got cheated a little bit out of the greatness of LeBron as a vocal leader,” Wade said. “He had so much going on, so much in his mind that he was just trying to show everybody with his play and his toughness.
“But this year, especially of late, we’ve all been getting the vocal player, the intelligent player that LeBron is. His IQ of the game is second to none. So you listen. Especially me.’”
But then I saw this.
And now I think it’s safe to say LeBron’s got more pressure on him this year than anyone ever has in the history of the NBA.* I don’t know if he can stomach it. I don’t know of anyone—aside from the pathological GOAT—that could handle it. I’m worried, but a good worried. Like a movie character you’re not really sure you’re rooting for until the happy ending comes and you realize you were, but you didn’t want to jinx it. The only happy ending to this story is a Larry O’Brien tropy.
*Feel free to tell me why this statement is ridiculous, but provide examples.
